RISS SCOOPS DOUBLE

Sunday November 03, 2019
KING’S LYNN brought the curtain down on the season with their annual Supporters’ Club ‘Presentation Night and Party’ on Saturday.

After a rollercoaster campaign on track; the Poultec Stars’ management, riders and fans came together for a night of fun and entertainment as celebrated the individual successes of the 2019 sept.

German favourite Erik Riss scooped two awards which was the perfect ending to his first full season in Norfolk.

The 24-year-old was voted ‘Rider of the Year’ and ‘Entertainer of the Year’ for 2019, by the Stars’ supporters.

Riss said: “To me, the biggest compliment that I could receive is the ‘Rider of the Year’ award. I think the reason why I have become a fans’ favourite is my style on a bike, but also, my unbreakable will to succeed when I am on the track!

“I always give 100 per cent until I cross that finish line. When I am behind, I get angry and that makes me try even harder. I hate losing and the fans want to see you try your best.

“They want to see someone that puts their heart out on that track and gives everything for their club, and that is what I do. At the end of the day, we are entertainers and you have to remember that, I wouldn’t be able to follow my passion as a job, without the fans.

“Every time I go on the track I show gratitude and deep down, I always remember that I wouldn’t be able to do this for a living without the fans. They come to watch me and the other riders so; I will try to give them what they like to see! For that reason, it is a great pleasure to be called a ‘fans’ favourite’.

With a flamboyant and unique style, Riss has certainly caught the eye of the supporters and the German believes it is an important part of his job to be entertaining.

He commented: “As I said, I always try to remember that without the fans, I wouldn’t be able to do my job and it isn’t just about racing. My job is to entertain people. So, when I enter the track, I do everything to give them a good show.

“If you support a club in any sport, you want to see your team succeed and I am no different, I remember that when I race. To me, winning is important because that’s what I love but also, that’s what the fans love to see!”

Meanwhile, Stars’ skipper Robert Lambert was voted ‘Team Rider of the Year’ for the second successive season with fellow Norfolk man, Lewis Kerr, securing the ‘Most Improved Rider of the Year’ award following his upturn in performances, in the second half of the season.
