STARS BOSS CLARIFIES COMMENTS

Thursday May 20, 2021
KING’S Lynn boss Peter Schroeck has moved to clarify his post-match comments after Monday’s emotional opening night against Ipswich.

Schroeck saw his side slip to a 47-43 defeat after a late rally from his side following a slow start in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

It was the first Premiership racing at the Adrian Flux Arena since October 2019 and despite the best efforts of the weather, racing went ahead after a delayed start.

Boss Schroeck said: “Looking back of course it’s disappointing to lose your opening home meeting, there’s no hiding from that and I certainly wasn’t content, far from it.

“But going forward I have to take the positives from it. Some of my boys haven’t been in a proper race since October 2019 and we made a poor start which cost us the meeting.

“We came good in the end when it was too late and we denied Ipswich an extra point, so it was some consolation I suppose.

“Of course it’s a massive disappointment to lose and I won’t hide from that, but there were positives and it was so good to see the crowd back in the stadium.

“I also know some fans criticised me for not using a tactical substitution, but I wanted to give my boys every opportunity to iron out their problems because it was obvious we were struggling. I wanted them to know I was backing them to put it right and I won’t criticise my riders, I’m backing them to put it right going forward. It’s not like football where we can pick other players from the squad, I have to work with these seven riders and I wanted them to know I was behind them to get it right.

“I congratulate Ipswich but also look forward to the opportunity to put it right when we race them again.”

The Minors and Brady Stars return to the Adrian Flux Arena next Thursday, May 27, when they face Wolverhampton in more Premiership action. Once again admission is by pre-booked tickets only via the club website.

Fans are also reminded that social distancing rules are in place at the venue and earlier than usual arrival is recommended.
