KING’S Lynn have swooped to sign former British Youth champion Sam Hagon as the club expand their future plans.
Following the capture of Elliot Kelly last summer, Minors and Brady Stars bosses moved quickly to add Hagon to their asset base after impressing on his National League debut for Mildenhall last week.
The Essex-born youngster comes from a family steeped in speedway history with his father Martin and grandfather Alf being former riders.
It’s clear the Brit has a talent for racing after winning the 250cc British Youth Championship in 2019.
Hagon said: “I think it will be good for me in the long run especially with King’s Lynn being a top league club. It will be a great experience whenever they give me a chance in the future because they’re a great club.
“My Grandad had a good career in the sport, but I’m trying to step away from that and make a name for myself just to prove to people I can do it my own way without having to live up to family connections.
“I have ridden at Lynn a few times already this year. I had a couple of practices after their home meetings with Ipswich and Wolverhampton which was good because I was able to learn how the track changes.
“I also rode at a practice day there so being able to see what happens in a meeting helps you learn because I have been able to see how the conditions change for when I go out on track.”
Delighted Stars boss Peter Schroeck said: “Sam is riding for Mildenhall this year but with him becoming a full asset he can look forward to the future being part of King’s Lynn Speedway.
“I’m a great believer that you’re the people you mix with and I think the more that young guys like Sam are involved with an established club the more it will help them to go forward in the future.
“All of the Stars boys are excited about having the youngsters involved with the team because there are several riders who want to help the lads coming through.
“It was Sam’s first big meeting at the Under-21’s semi-final because all the amateur fixtures have been up north so he hasn’t been able to race competitively but you could see how Sam rode at Leicester last week that he enjoyed being part of a team so we want to build on that now.”
