STARS 46 BELLE VUE 44

Thursday July 22, 2021
NEW team boss Alex Brady kicked off his reign in style by inspiring a first home victory of the season – a breathtaking 46-44 success over Belle Vue.

The Minors & Brady Stars led throughout the first half of the meeting, in stark contrast to past matches which had seen sluggish starts, but hit a wobble by conceding 5-1s either side of a grading break to trail by four points after nine races.

That gap grew to six after 11 but Brady’s tactical substitute Richard Lawson – scorer of a whopping 17-paid-18 from seven rides – backed up a second win for the returning Erik Riss to swing the pendulum in heat 12.

A shared 13th followed with Lewis Kerr and Connor Mountain then weighing in with another 5-1 to put the Stars back in front.

Dan Bewley rocketed away in the last-heat decider but Thomas Jorgensen refused to be beaten at the back and passed Richie Worrall to pack the minor places behind Lawson to seal the victory, much like his superb charge past Steve Worrall in a shared 10th.

The win and nature of it prompted a partisan atmosphere with riders, Brady and co-promoter Dale Allitt enjoying the moment with a jubilant crowd.

“It could not have gone any better,” said Brady.

“First and foremost it was a great night of speedway and the result was the cherry on top of the cake. I am over the moon and could not have asked for any more from the boys.

“They did everything I asked of them. These boys know how to ride a bike, all they needed was a bit of belief that they could do it here at King’s Lynn and they have proved they can.

“Hopefully it is onwards and upwards from here.”

Brady also paid tribute to the die-hard Stars faithful who stayed with the team throughout and were rewarded with something to cheer.

“The fan in me was very excited,” he added.

“I had a lot of family, friends and colleagues who came along, in excess of 50 of them, and along with the die-hard fans the atmosphere created helped get us over the line. It was brilliant.”
