KING’S Lynn were unable to add to their Premiership tally as they went down 52-38 at Wolverhampton.
The Minors and Brady Stars put up a brave fight in tricky conditions in the West Midlands and gave the league leaders things to think about along the way.
But it was Wolves who maintained their unbeaten home run despite being kept honest by the men from Norfolk.
The Stars took the lead in Heat Two when the returning Kasper Andersen took full advantage of a quick start with Connor Mountain taking third.
But the hosts soon moved eight in front with three heat advantages in the space of four races, with home duo Nick Morris and Luke Becker linking up for two 5-1s in that spell.
The Stars were in a good position for a maximum of their own in Heat Seven, but a smart ride from former Lynn man Rory Schlein saw him pass both Erik Riss and Lewis Kerr with the scores at 25-17.
That first 5-1 did follow in the eighth though when new signings Ben Barker and Andersen combined to beat home man Broc Nicol for the first time and halve the deficit in the process.
But the Stars were instantly back to eight down, despite the best efforts of Mountain who couldn’t stop the formidable Becker and Morris pairing.
After a difficult start, Richard Lawson switched machinery and took the chequered flag in Heat 11 with Barker holding off Schlein for third.
An improved outing from Lawson saw team boss Alex Brady nominate him as a tactical substitute in Heat 12 - but despite a strong opening couple of bends, he couldn’t handle the speed of Morris who completed his set of unbeaten programmed rides.
Stars’ hopes of leaving the West Midlands with anything to show for their efforts were ended with a race to spare as they conceded a fourth 5-1 of the night after being outgated by their opponents.
Boss Brady said: “The track was really tricky and the boys did everything they could.
“I was really pleased with their efforts and I was proud of them - but obviously I’m gutted because going down by 14 is not what we came here to do.
“There were some pleasing aspects and I thought both Ben and Kasper came in and showed they can offer us something different.
“Wolves are a good side everywhere though, especially at home, and as I’ve said I’m proud of the boys despite the end scoreline.”
King’s Lynn are back at the Adrian Flux Arena on Thursday (August 12, 7.30) against high flying Peterborough for the latest A47 derby.
