STARS BOSS - IT WORKS

KING’S Lynn boss Alex Brady insists having never had a racing career works in his favour.

Brady, a successful businessman, took his first job in speedway management mid-way through last season.

And he insists his management style works – despite not having any experience of riding a bike.

He said: “Certain riders have their little quirks and how to get the best of them.

“But generally at this level, having limited to no mechanical knowledge isn’t a problem, because they all have full time mechanics and other members of their pit crew.

“I imagine if we were in the National Development League then I would be more called upon for set-ups which I can’t really help with which is why I won’t be running the Junior League side - but I’ll certainly be in the pits and watching every race.

“My management style is pretty simple really. I don’t try to reinvent the wheel or anything like that, I try to find out what makes riders tick, what their motivation is, what is their why? If you can unlock this in every rider, you will get the most out of them.

“I’ve got a book which has got information in about every rider - their birthdays, partners / wives names, kids names, pets names - all sorts of stuff about say, Lewi Kerr the man, not just the speedway rider.

“It’s a pretty natural thing that if people see you care about them, they will reciprocate that and go above their usual limits and levels for you, and I really do care about them!”

Brady has welcomed the extra meetings for the Minors and Brady Stars as they face Peterborough and Ipswich in their League Cup group and will also host a round of the Premiership Pairs along with every other top flight club.

“The Premiership is solid right now although I admit we need more variety of teams with only six at the moment,” he said.

“But with 13 home meetings plus, hopefully, play-offs and of course Lewi Kerr’s testimonial it gives our supporters more speedway to look forward to.”
