KING’S Lynn bid to put recent disappointments behind them when they head to Belle Vue on Monday for the first of two big matches this week.
The Minors & Brady Stars scored a point at Peterborough last Monday, but that was little consolation as they had looked set to win the meeting, which would have been a major boost after recent home defeats against Ipswich and Sheffield.
With their home campaign resuming on Thursday against Wolverhampton, it’s a vital period especially as the effect of recent results means the Stars have slipped to the foot of the Premiership, just behind Peterborough.
By contrast Belle Vue are in a solid second place, two points behind Ipswich, and with the Witches inactive on Monday, a home win will take them back to the top.
The Aces have enjoyed a strong league campaign since the signing of Matej Zagar on the eve of the competition, and they go into the meeting with an unblemished home record of five wins out of five.
And their 58-32 win over Roses rivals Sheffield last week was certainly a result to make the rest of the league take notice.
The Stars, however, have done well in the past at the National Speedway Stadium, and battled their way to a deserved point in a 48-42 defeat back in mid-May, in a meeting affected by rain beforehand.
Boss Alex Brady has called up former Belle Vue man Craig Cook to guest for Niels-Kristian Iversen at No.1 as the Stars continue to seek a long-term solution for the Dane’s enforced absence.
Brady said: “Expectations were higher after our start to the season, and this has been a difficult period, but I’m still convinced that we can make the play-offs – I wouldn’t be doing this if I wasn’t.
“It’s fine margins at the moment, we are missing Niels, and we are putting hours upon hours into solving this.
“There are no options available until Poland finish their regular season, so we have to stick together, fight as a unit and do our best, and see what comes from there.”
