PREMIERSHIP PAIRS ROUND 4 PREVIEW

Sunday July 17, 2022
JOSH Pickering hopes to plunder points and pointers as King’s Lynn’s push for Premiership Pairs honours continues at Wolverhampton on Monday (8pm).

The Minors & Brady Stars skipper will, as usual, be joined by Richard Lawson for the fourth round of the event that pits two top riders and the Rising Star from each top-flight team against one another.

Pickering’s last trip to Monmore Green, the 53-37 defeat at the start of May, was cut short by illness and with King’s Lynn right in the thick of the battle for top billing in the new competition, he wants a fruitful fact-finding mission.

“You are up against two of the top riders from every team at these events, they always lead with their best foot forwards which means there are no easy races,” said Pickering.

“Personally, I was quite sick when we went to Wolves in the league and had to withdraw after two rides.

“I will be taking a different approach to this one. We want the best possible outcome but again, we don’t have to win every single race, the minor places are the ones that get you to the semi-finals and the final.

“For me it will be a matter of learning a new track, getting as many points on the board as possible and then taking that into the league meeting the week after so we can do them there.”

Having finished third in the home leg of the six-round tournament, the Stars sit third overall, two points behind second-placed Sheffield and four behind leaders Ipswich, the winners of the past two rounds.

Those who cannot attend in person can tune in to a live stream from British Speedway Network (BSN).

A BSN+ subscription is required to watch. Each round can be purchased individually, priced at £12.99. BSN’s web URL is watch.britishspeedway.co.uk. BSN also has an App which is now available on Amazon Fire TV and on all IOS (Apple) devices.
