RACEDAY BUILD-UP: STARS v SHEFFIELD

Monday October 17, 2022
IN-FORM King’s Lynn racer Richie Worrall says this week is the perfect time to end their Sheffield hoodoo – and bring silverware back to the Adrian Flux Arena.

The Minors & Brady Stars host the Tigers, who were defeated Premiership Grand Finalists last week, tonight (Monday, 7.30pm) in the first leg of the League Cup Final, and are looking to build a lead to take to Owlerton on Thursday.

Sheffield have a terrific recent record in Norfolk but Worrall says the Stars can take inspiration from their 63-27 demolition of Wolves last time out at home, and from their own displays in South Yorkshire this season.

He scored a paid maximum against Wolves, and although that meeting was a month ago he goes into the meeting after a series of high scores at Championship level and a rostrum finish in Friday’s Scottish Open at Edinburgh.

Worrall said: “I know they’ve beaten us four times, but give us a track like against Wolverhampton and I think we could do them.

“We’ve been strong at their place, we took a point the first time and almost took a point last time we were there if I didn’t get passed in Heat 15.

“So I really do reckon we could do them over the two legs. I just thrive on these kind of meetings, so I’m really, really looking forward to these Sheffield meetings.”

Tonight’s official League Cup Final programme features the full interview with Worrall along with the views of team boss Alex Brady, centre-green presenter Andy Mitchell and a look back on the last time the Stars secured full-team top-flight silverware. It is priced at £3 as usual.

All tickets are available at the stadium on the night, and supporters are advised to arrive a little early with a big crowd expected.
