KING’S LYNN dug deep to earn their second away victory of the season at Birmingham.
The PSH Environmental Stars edged the contest 46-43 to end a run of four straight defeats in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.
Things got off to an unusual start at Perry Barr with only two finishers in Heat One.
Birmingham’s Wiktor Lampart was excluded from the initial staging before Stars’ No.1 Jan Kvech retired with machinery problems on the opening lap of the re-run.
Meanwhile, home skipper Freddie Lindgren got the better of King’s Lynn captain Niels-Kristian Iversen for a rare 3-2.
Reserve duo Anders Rowe and Lewis Kerr then made lightning getaways to ease to a 5-1 in Heat Two before guest Norick Blodorn led a 4-2 with Patryk Wojdylo in Heat Three.
Another 4-2 looked on the cards in the fourth, but Tom Brennan eventually rounded Rowe on the final lap.
The Stars moved nine clear when Blodorn and Kvech raced to another comfortable 5-1 in Heat Five - but the hosts hit back instantly despite the best efforts of Iversen who battled away in third in the opening stages.
Blodorn led Heat Seven before being passed by Brennan with Wojdylo also beaten by former Star Michael Palm Toft as the Brummies moved back to within three.
But Kvech produced an impressive opening lap in Heat Eight to pass both home riders to lead a share of the spoils with Rowe retiring out at the back.
Iversen and Kerr restored the Stars’ five point lead with a 4-2 in Heat Nine before four 3-3s followed.
Wojdylo and Blodorn took the minor placings behind Lindgren in Heat 10 whilst Kvech became the first rider to defeat Brennan in Heat 11.
Rowe made a good pass under Leon Flint off bend two, lap one in Heat 12 whilst Iversen then rounded Lindgren in Heat 13 to end the Brummies’ No.1’s unbeaten night.
There was drama ahead of Heat 14 when Wojdylo was excluded for not being ready to start at the expiry of the two minutes. But reserve Kerr came in and made a beautiful start from the inside with Rowe taking third to secure the win for the Stars and inflict a 14th straight defeat on Birmingham.
A run of four quick fire home fixtures for the PSH Environmental Stars gets underway this Thursday (August 22, 7.30pm) when they host Oxford at the Adrian Flux Arena.
