STARS v IPSWICH, PREVIEW

Sunday July 13, 2025
KING'S Lynn look to put one over local rivals Ipswich once again when the sides meet in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership at the Adrian Flux Arena on Monday (7.30pm).

It's a big week of action between the East Anglian rivals as this Thursday sees the PSH Environmental Stars travel to Foxhall for the second leg of their KO Cup tie.

But league points are on offer on Monday, and with a lack of home fixtures over the last month Lynn now find themselves nine points behind Leicester in the battle for a top four finish.

In fact, their last fixture on their own track way back on June 16 saw them defeat the Witches 51-39 with Jan Kvech and Chris Harris both delivering outstanding performances.

There is mixed news on the injury front for the Stars, with Kvech declared fit to ride albeit he is currently managing a shoulder injury after his crash with Jason Doyle in the recent Grand Prix at Gorzow.

However, Niels-Kristian Iversen has been ruled out after a crash in Sweden last Tuesday left him struggling with rib damage.

The club can also clarify the position with Ben Cook, who will not be racing on Monday and is set to miss the coming weeks in the UK.

Cook's wrist issues dating back to his crash on April 14 at the AFA were clearly on view when the Stars raced at Birmingham a fortnight ago, and at this time the injury is not sufficiently healed for him to compete on British tracks, which are very different in surface to those in Poland.

He does plan to return to King's Lynn in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership this season with an expectation that by mid-August his fitness will be much improved.

With two of their top five riders out on Monday, Lynn have to bring in at least one guest, and this is further complicated by the fact that six of the seven clubs in the league are racing, and there is no availability from Birmingham who have no fixture.

Therefore the Stars will operate rider replacement for Iversen at No.1 whilst Simon Lambert will slot in for Cook at No.4.

Manager Rob Lyon said: "We understand Ben's position and we all saw what happened at Birmingham.

"He wants to come back, he doesn't want to end it here, and he's said he's happy to come back to us.

"Obviously that's providing he's fit enough, and you would think in another month he should be fine.

"He knows it depends on what we do, because if there was a replacement out there for us to sign then we would do that.

"But I've told him we have no plans to do that because in all honesty there is nobody out there for us to bring in, so that's where we are at the moment.

"With Niels we've had to take it day by day and unfortunately having spoken to him on Sunday, he isn't going to be ready to race on Monday, and in this case we were able to leave it because we'd already established there were no suitable guest options.

"It's another difficult situation especially with the lack of availability of guests, but we know Simon will give it his all and the rest of the boys will be determined to put on a big performance against the odds."

Ipswich have had their injury issues this season too, but the Witches are close to full strength for their visit to the AFA.

Jason Doyle, who withdrew last month after two rides, is now firmly back in business and in form, whilst Dan Thompson has resumed at reserve.

Adam Ellis pulled out of their home win over Belle Vue last Thursday as a precaution but he is declared in the line-up on Monday, with former Stars rider Jason Edwards coming in to guest at Rising Star in place of the injured Jordan Jenkins.

KING'S LYNN: Niels-Kristian Iversen r/r, Richard Lawson, Chris Harris, Simon Lambert, Jan Kvech, Nicolai Klindt, Jody Scott.
IPSWICH: Jason Doyle, Danny King, Emil Sayfutdinov, Adam Ellis, Tom Brennan, Dan Thompson, Jason Edwards.
