PETERBOROUGH v MACINNES STARS, PREVIEW

Sunday May 21, 2023
KING’S Lynn look to complete an A47 derby double when they make the short trip to rivals Peterborough on Monday (7.30pm).

The MacInnes Stars took two Sports Insure Premiership points when they defeated the Panthers 54-36 at the Adrian Flux Arena last week, and that puts them in a strong position to seal the aggregate point across the two meetings.

But boss Alex Brady admits the targets are much higher than that as they look to end a disappointing run of away results and make serious progress up the league table.

The Stars’ last win on the road was at the East of England Arena last August when they gained an impressive 52-38 victory, and more of the same is required on Monday.

With skipper Josh Pickering still ruled out by shoulder trouble, Belle Vue’s Tom Brennan comes in as a guest on a circuit where he scored 7+2 racing in the main body of the team for the Aces last month.

The Panthers again have a strong guest at No.1 with Dan Bewley taking the blank space held briefly by Nicki Pedersen at the start of the season, and elsewhere in the team they again use rider replacement for Richie Worrall who is out with shoulder ligament damage.

Meanwhile Jordan Jenkins was ruled out by concussion protocols on Thursday, but he returns at reserve for a side who have lost each of their first six Sports Insure Premiership fixtures.

Brady said: “I’m sure Peterborough will want to come back at us, but our confidence is high and on Thursday we saw what this team is truly capable of.

“It’s now a case of making sure we replicate that on Monday and then going on beyond that, and I’m confident we can get the full five points from the two meetings.

“I’ve got no doubts that we are good enough, but me talking doesn’t prove anything. If we can add three more league points to the two we got on Thursday then suddenly the league table looks a lot nicer, and hopefully we can go on to bigger and better things.”

A busy week for the Stars also includes a trip to Sheffield on Thursday (May 25) before the Tigers return in the next home meeting at the Adrian Flux Arena on June 1.
